History

Merrick Construction Companies' history dates back to 1902, when the operations began as the Falls City Cornice & Roofing Company. As the company developed, the name was changed in 1958 to The Merrick Company, Inc. reflecting the pride in accomplishments of quality and craftsmanship achieved by the family over the years. With further development mechanical piping and industrial sheetmetal became an important operating part of the company. During this time individual companies were set up: The Merrick Company, Inc. (Industrial Sheet Metal), Merrick Mechanical (Mechanical Contractors), and Merrick-Kemper (Roofing and Architectural Sheet Metal). Within a relatively short period of time, the three companies were recognized as having the highest quality and the top craftsmen in their field. In the late 1980's, with the fourth generation of Merricks in their early thirties and forties, it was decided that the companies would be joined together in order to reduce duplication and to achieve tighter control, and enable the new company, Merrick Construction Companies, Inc., to be more responsive to the market place.

Merrick, in construction probably offers more of a variety of items of service than any other contractor in this area. We have gradually grown into having expertise in these areas of construction, in the past ninety plus years and more specifically in the past twenty five years. The production employment level of MCC normally varies between one hundred forty and one hundred eighty employees. In addition there are approximately twenty project managers, accounting, administrative, safety and personnel employees in management. Our ability to assemble qualified workers for both planned and emergency situations, for our core work, comes from the large employee workforce that we employ. For our core work, for our industrial customers, on an emergency situation we can move twenty, forty, or sixty men in a matter of several days. MCC, through Associations, or direct, have Multi Employer Bargaining Unit Agreements with Unions representing Pipefitting, Sheet Metal, Plumbing, and Boilermakers.

Merrick Construction employs the use of computers for its accounting and various information systems. Our systems center on our "Deneb" Construction and Estimating computer software package. Depending on the needs of our customers we can provide computerized estimating, cost analysis, productivity measurement, project management and scheduling.
