Expansion, Sales Make DPI
One of Top On-Demand Print Providers

Louisville, KY (June 5, 1998) -- Digital Print Impressions (DPI), a division of  The Merrick Printing Company, recently completed an expansion from 5,000 to 30,000 sq. ft. This expansion, coupled with second year sales over $3 million, make DPI one of the top on- demand print providers in the nation.

DPI now leases a total of 30,000 square feet at its production and warehouse facility in the River Green Business Park in Louisville.

Two years ago, as the digital printing segment of their business began to show significant increases, the management of Merrick Printing determined that the best way to continue that growth would be to establish a separate division to focus its expertise on sales and production in the specific area of on-demand printing.

To make the relationship between the toner-based digital division and the traditional ink-based facility seamless for its customers, Merrick recently completed the installation of a direct Native Mode Lane Interconnect (NMLI) connection between Merrick and DPI. This direct connection makes communication between the two divisions virtually instantaneous.

"Whether our customers have conventional ink-based print jobs or on-demand toner-based projects, or a combination of the two, our account and production staff can seamlessly -- and even more quickly -- handle the full scope of a project to the customer's satisfaction," said David Merrick, president of Merrick Printing.

The DPI expansion is just one in a line of recent investments by Merrick Printing. Over the past 24 months, Merrick has invested more than $6 million in new printing, bindery equipment and its facilities. For instance, Merrick just completed the installation of a new 6-color Rapida press and Mueller saddle stitcher.

DPI currently has 26 employees, bringing Merrick's total employment to 167. Total projected sales for Merrick in 1998 are $16 million.

The Merrick Printing Company is a full-service commercial printer providing premium print and electronic communications products, as well as digital information management for corporate and institutional customers. Through its subsidiary, Digital Print Impressions (DPI), Merrick meets the on-demand program needs of customers who want high-quality, short-run color and black-and-white jobs which save time and money.
