The eight upper pinnacles each stand approximately 18 feet
tall, weigh about 900 lbs. each, and are fabricated of hot rolled steel tubes, galvanized
steel sheets, wood, and then are covered with roofing felt, rosin paper, and copper. Each
pinnacle measures 18 inches square. A 14 gauge stainless steel core device, 3 feet high,
was fabricated and built into the masonry structure to receive and provide support for
each pinnacle. In addition to this bottom support, copper clad stainless steel tubing and
attachment devices were used to provide horizontal support from the main spire structure. Copper
ornamentation for crockets and finials was furnished to Merrick by the W. F. Norman
Corporation of Nevada, Missouri. |
